Manfred Karl Schretter

Manfred Karl Schretter (born February 25, 1944 in Breitenwang ) is an Austrian ancient orientalist .

Life

After graduation in 1962 at Episcopal High School Paulinum in Schwaz he studied from 1962 to 1971 ancient oriental philology and classical philology in Innsbruck . After receiving his doctorate in 1971 as Dr. phil. at the University of Innsbruck in 1971 he received a research grant for the research project Innsbruck Sumerian Lexicon at the Institute for Languages ​​and Cultures of the Ancient Orient at the University of Innsbruck. From 1972 to 1977 he was a contract assistant for the research project mentioned, where he was since 1977 university assistant and lecturer (1984-1986). He was the 1986 authorization to teach as a university professor awarded for Languages and Cultures of the Ancient Near East. Since 1986 he has headed the research project Innsbruck Sumerian Lexicon , succeeding Karl Oberhuber . From October 1, 1986 to October 1, 1987, he was the provisional director of the institute. In 1988 he became senior assistant and was given a permanent job. In 1997 he was appointed associate professor. He has been married to Eveline Schretter-Irschick since 1998 .

His main research interests are Sumerian lexicology and linguistics.

Since 1962 he has been a member of the Catholic student association AV Vindelicia Innsbruck in the ÖCV .
