Manfred Thieme

Manfred Thieme (born January 1, 1936 in Falkenstein ) is a former officer of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic . Most recently he held the rank of major general .

Military career

As the son of a worker, he learned the trade of a weaver after attending school. After completing his training, he joined the KVP on August 12, 1954 and was then an officer student at the officers' school in Großenhain until 1957 . After graduation, Thieme first became a platoon leader, and from 1960 then a company leader in the 7th motorized rifle regiment , which he remained until 1964. Thieme had already joined the SED in 1959 . In 1964, Thieme was promoted to chief of staff of a tank battalion, from 1966 to 1970 then to commander. In 1970 he was delegated to the Friedrich Engels Military Academy in Dresden , which he attended until 1973. After the visit, Thieme became the commander of the 7th Motorized Rifle Regiment , which he remained until 1980. At the same time he acted from 1979 to 1980 as m. d. F. b. Deputy Commander in Training for the 11th Motorized Rifle Division .

In 1981 he was Deputy Head of Training and Head of the Training Department in the Command of Military District III of the NVA. On December 1, 1981, Thieme rose as the successor to Colonel Günther Brodowsky as head of the Suhl military district command , which he remained until he was released from the NVA on September 30, 1990. Since February 1984 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Suhl. On March 1, 1989, he was appointed major general.
