Manfred Weidmann (born January 15, 1945 in Stuttgart) is a former German soccer player . The player, who moved over the wing, into midfield and finally to the right full-back position, played a total of 234 league games at VfB Stuttgart from 1967 to 1975 in the Bundesliga , scoring 32 goals.

career

Weidmann went through the entire youth stations at VfB before he was taken over from the amateur team to the professional squad for the 1967/68 season. The team of trainer Gunther Baumann also registered the two talents Gerhard Heinze and Roland Weidle from the youth, as well as Dieter Feller from Münster, Manfred Gärtner from Saarbrücken and Horst Haug from local rivals Stuttgarter Kickers as additions . On November 18, 1967, he made his debut in a 4-1 home win against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. At the end of the round, he had scored two goals in 15 league appearances alongside regular players such as Horst Köppel , Gilbert Gress , Bo Larsson , Klaus-Dieter Sieloff and Karl-Heinz Handschuh and VfB came in 8th. Weidmann initially played in the storm and was later used in defense.

After two years under Gunther Baumann, he experienced the coaches Franz Seybold , Branko Zebec , Karl Bögelein (interim), Hermann Eppenhoff and Albert Sing up to and including the 1974/75 season . In the 1973/74 season he played a remarkable round in the UEFA Cup with VfB and the following year, 1974/75 , his club was surprisingly relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2nd Bundesliga, the always reliable team player completed another 34 league games (1 goal), but the relegated only ended up on the disappointing 11th place. For lack of success, coach Istvan Sztani was replaced by Karl Bögelein on March 29, 1976 , despite additions such as Dragan Holcer , Ottmar Hitzfeld and Dieter Hoeneß . 16 wins stood against 18 defeats, the result of 36:40 points, including a derby defeat against the Stuttgarter Kickers (0: 2), made the round an even bigger disaster than the previous Bundesliga relegation. Weidmann played his last round game on June 5, 1976 in a 0-1 home defeat against 1. FC Nürnberg.

The meritorious VfB player joined SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg for the 1976/77 season and completed 29 rounds with the game association in the first year of the amateur league in 1978/79 at the age of 33, in which he scored three goals. In the summer of 1979 he joined the SV Rot in the Landesliga Württemberg and let his career end.
