Manfred Zeh

Manfred Paul Zeh (born April 12, 1933 in Heidewilxen, Trebnitz district ) was major general of the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic .

biography

The son of a carpenter, who " resettled " from the Trebnitz district to the SBZ from 1945 to 1946 , completed school education from 1946 to 1950, completing the twelfth grade in basic subjects, in addition to working as a farm worker. On March 24, 1950 he joined the People's Police and was initially a student at the People's Police School in Priemerwald, before he was a platoon leader and senior adjudicant until 1952 and then chief of staff at the Stern Buchholz People's Police Department until 1955 . In 1954 he became a member of the SED .

Between 1956 and 1957 he was an officer student at the officers' college of the GDR of the NVA . This was followed by employment as an operations officer and from 1958 to 1960 as head of the reconnaissance subdivision in the staff of the 8th motorized rifle division in Schwerin . Between 1961 and 1964 he was an officer auditor at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy in Dresden, where he graduated with a degree in military science. Thereupon was commander of the Mot until 1971. 2nd Rifle Regiment

Between 1971 and 1974 he was a graduate of the General Staff Academy of the USSR , where he received his doctorate in military science (Dr. rer. Mil.). After his return he became deputy commanding officer for 11th Mot. Rifle division in Halle . From September 1, 1977 to April 30, 1984 he was himself, initially with the rank of colonel , commander of the 11th Mot. Rifle Division. He succeeded Colonel Alfred Krause in both roles . On October 7, 1979, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the GDR, he was appointed major general. Between 1984 and 1990 he was finally commander of the Land Forces Section at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy in Dresden. Immediately before the reunification of Germany , he was released on September 30, 1990.

In the course of his military career he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze and the battle medal “For Merit to People and Fatherland” in bronze. He is a member of the initiative group for the protection of the social rights of former members of armed organs and the customs administration of the GDR e. V.
