Manjil Rudbar quake 1990

The 1990 Manjil Rudbar quake occurred in northern Iran at 00:30:09 local time on June 21, 1990 (21:00:09 June 20 , 1990 UTC ). It had a magnitude of 7.4; the hypocenter was 19 km deep.

About 40,000 people were killed and about 60,000 were injured. The quake had the most death toll in 1990.

It caused widespread damage in an area within 100 km of the epicenter near the city of Rasht , about 200 km northwest of Tehran . The cities of Rudbar , Manjil and Lushan and 700 villages were destroyed, and more than 300 other villages were affected. 100,000 adobe houses were badly damaged or collapsed, and 500,000 people were left homeless.

The total damage was about eight billion US dollars . In the provinces of Gilan and Zanjan in the southwest of the Caspian Sea alone, damage of around seven million US dollars was caused.
