Manon Aubry
Manon Aubry (born December 22, 1989 in Fréjus ) is a French politician . Since 2019 she has been a member of the European Parliament and co-chair of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left .
Life
Youth and education
Manon Aubry was born in Fréjus on December 22, 1989, the daughter of Catherine Poggi-Aubry, a former journalist , and Bruno Aubry, journalist, writer and teacher . She completed her school education at the Lycée Saint-Exupéry in Saint-Raphaël . From 2007 to 2011 Aubry studied political science at Sciences Po in Paris. This was followed by studies abroad at the University of Sydney and Columbia University .
Equipped with a degree in Sciences Politiques, she initially worked for Doctors of the World in Liberia and for almost two years for the Carter Center in the Democratic Republic of the Congo .
Political commitment
Aubry has been politically active since her youth. In 2005 she campaigned for the rejection of a European constitution and in 2006 against the introduction of Contrat première embauche . She later got involved with Oxfam .
In December 2018, La France insoumise nominated Manon Aubry for first place on the list for the 2019 European elections . In the election campaign for the European elections, she showed understanding for the demands of the yellow vests movement . La France insoumise achieved 6.3 percent in the election and thus 6 of the 76 French mandates. Aubry joined the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left , and was elected co-chair alongside Martin Schirdewan . She is the youngest group leader ever elected in the European Parliament. For her parliamentary group, she is also a member of the Legal Affairs Committee and a deputy member of the Development Committee and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs .
