Manticora (named after the Persian-Greek mythical creature Mantikor ) is a Danish progressive power metal band from Hvidovre , which was founded in 1996 by Lars and Kristian Larsen.

history

The band was founded in 1997 by singer Lars Larsen, guitarist Kristian Larsen and drummer Mads Volf. A short time later, bassist Rene Nielsen also joined the line-up. Shortly afterwards they recorded the EP Dead End Solution . In 1998 the band signed a contract with Intromental Management and shortly thereafter also signed a contract with Black Lotus Records . In the same year came as a further guitarist Flemming Schultz and as keyboardist Jeppe Eg Jensen to the cast. The debut album Roots of Eternity was released in the summer of 1999.

In 2000 the band signed a contract with Scarlet Records and released the album Darkness With Tales to Tell six months later . In 2001 bassist Nielsen left the band and was replaced by Kasper Gram. In addition, guitarist Schultz left the band, so that Martin Arendal took over his position.

In 2002 the band played at the Sweden Rock Festival . The album Hyperion was released in the fall . In spring 2003 followed a tour together with Platitude through Europe . In early 2004, work began on the next album called 8 Deadly Sins . The album was recorded in March and April at Jailhouse Studios under the direction of producer Tommy Hansen . Another tour of Europe followed in February 2005 with Angra and Edenbridge . Then came Stefan Johansson as guitarist and Andreas Lindahl as keyboardist. This was followed by her first appearance in the USA at ProgPower USA in September 2005 in Atlanta .

After that, guitarist Martin Arendal returned and replaced Johansson. The band then went back to the studio to record the album The Black Circus Part 1 - Letters , which was again produced by Tommy Hansen. This was followed by a small tour through Europe together with Andromeda . After this, the band went back to Jailhouse Studios to record The Black Circus Part 2 - Disclosure . After the release followed a tour through Europe and the USA together with Jon Oliva's Pain . This was followed in May 2009 by another one through Europe together with Circle II Circle . The tour included 21 performances in 16 countries.

In 2010 the album Safe was released. The release was followed by a tour of Europe in October, where the band played in nine different countries.

style

The band plays progressive power metal and is compared to Blind Guardian . In addition, borrowings from Thrash Metal are also audible, which means that comparisons with Depressive Age are drawn.
