Manuel Alexandre Abarca (born November 11, 1917 in Madrid , † October 12, 2010 there ) was a Spanish actor . He appeared in nearly 300 roles during his seven-decade career.

Life

He broke off Alexandre's first professional training as a lawyer and studied at the Madrid drama school, which was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. In this he fought on the side of the Republicans. From 1945 he began a stage career as an actor at the Teatro Reina Victoria and later at the co-founded Teatro Español Universitario , which he continued in the cinema from 1953 - after his debut in Willkommen, Mr. Marshall . He has appeared in numerous supporting roles in all genres ; television also gave him many opportunities to show his art. In his penultimate role in 2008, he played the title role, General Franco .

Alexandre has worked with almost all of the great directors of different generations in his country, including José María Forqué , José Luis Cuerda , Francisco Regueiro , Luis García Berlanga , José Luis García Sánchez and Manolo Gutiérrez Aragón . He did not neglect his stage career throughout his life.

Among the numerous awards that Alexandre received, the 2003 honorary Goya stands out for his life's work. Especially at the beginning of his career he was often referred to as Manuel Alejandre .
