Lan Lixin

Lan Lixin ( Chinese  蘭 麗 新  /  兰 丽 新 , Pinyin Lán Lìxīn ; * February 14, 1979 ) is a former Chinese middle and long distance runner .

The young runner was looked after by controversial coach Ma Junren when she caused a sensation at the 1997 Chinese national games in Shanghai.

In the final over 1500 m she ran fourth with 3: 55.01 minutes, a time that has not been undercut since then, and is 8th in the all-time world rankings (as of 2010). One day later she was second in the 10,000 m in 30: 39.41 min, and after another two days she ran over 5000 m as second in the preliminary round 14: 45.33 min.

The following year, on February 28 in Beijing , she set the current world record in the marathon relay with Jiang Bo , Dong Yanmei , Zhao Fengting , Ma Zaijie and Lin Na as the fifth runner in the Chinese relay with 2:11:41 h . At the Junior World Championships in Athletics in Annecy, she won gold over 1500 m and was fourth over 3000 m .

In 2000 she was one of the athletes from Ma's squad who were removed from the Chinese roster for the Olympic Games in Sydney after a suspicious blood test .

The following year she was eliminated from the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Lisbon over 1500 m in the preliminary run. At the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton , she reached the semifinals over the same distance.
