Manuel Jesus Pires (* 1895 ; † 1944 ) was a Portuguese officer and colonial administrator in Portuguese Timor .

Lieutenant Pires was the administrator of the São Domingos district (today the municipality of Baucau ) in 1942 when the Japanese invaded the colony of what was actually neutral Portugal. Pires fled to Australia and returned with Allied soldiers to fight the invaders in guerrilla warfare in the Battle of Timor . Using a radio, he informed the Australians about Japanese troop movements. Pires died in 1944.

A memorial in the center of the East Timorese capital Dili has been a memorial since 1972 .

The East Timorese politician Milena Pires is the granddaughter of Manuel Jesus Pires.
