Juan Manuel Rubio Medina (* the thirtieth March 1971 in Tecuala , Mexico ) is a former Mexican boxer in the featherweight and five-time world champion. It was managed by Sergio Sotelo .

Professional career

He began his professional career in 1985 and won his first two fights by unanimous decision (the first over four and the second over six rounds). He lost his third fight by unanimous decision and his fourth even by a technical knockout.

On August 12, 1991 he beat Troy Dorsey on points and was thereby world champion of the IBF association . He defended this belt three times in a row and lost it to Tom Johnson on February 26, 1993 . In September 1995 he won the WBC world title when he defeated Alejandro Gonzalez by split point decision. He lost this belt in the same year against Luisito Espinosa on points.

On April 14th in 1998 he fought against Luisito Espinosa for the IBF World Championship and won. The following year he defended the title against Victor Polo and lost it to Paul Ingle . On November 16, 2001 he succeeded in conquering the IBF World Championship title for the third time by defeating Frankie Toledo in Nevada by TKo in the fifth round. The normal boom Johnny Tapia took this belt from him on April 27 of the following year by a split judge's decision.

On July 12, 2003, he met British Scott Harrison . This fight was about the WBO world championship belt . Medina defeated Harrison by split point decision and thus became WBO world champion. However, he lost the title in a direct rematch against Harrison in late November of the same year.

His last fight, which he lost against Malcolm Klassen by TKo in round 2, took place in South Africa at the end of August 2008 .
