Mar Lodj (also Mar Lothie , Mar Lyotch , Mar Loytch or Mar Lotche ) is an island in Senegal that is located in the Sine-Saloum region in the Delta du Saloum National Park . Mar Lodj is located in the delta of the Saloum and Sine rivers , in the Fatick region .
population
About 5,000 people live on the island. They live mainly in the towns of Mar-Fafako and Mar-Lothie . In addition to Christianity and Islam , the residents practice traditional religions - often in a syncretistic mixture with the major religions . For example, offerings such as chickens or palm wine are made for the spirits on sacred trees.
economy
The residents live mainly from agriculture and fishing, there is also some tourism. So rice , millet , peanuts , watermelons and vegetables are grown. The residents also keep cows , pigs , goats and chickens .
