Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC), formerly Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC , is a US oil refining, transportation and marketing company. The company is headquartered in Houston , Texas .
history
Due to the successful fuel brand name Marathon Ohio founded in 1887 Oil Company in 1962 changed its name to Marathon Oil Company, which Marathon synonymous with the product and the company was. In 1998, Marathon founded Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC (MAP) together with Ashland Inc. , which is now the sixth largest oil refinery in the United States . In 2005 it became a 100% subsidiary of Marathon Oil. On July 1, 2011, the downstream business (refineries and petrol stations) was spun off, with Marathon Petroleum taking over the old logo of Marathon Oil. In 2018, Marathon Petroleum acquired refinery and gas station operator Andeavor for a transaction value of $ 23 billion.
On August 4, 2020, it was announced that Marathon Petroleum is selling all 3,900 Speedway convenience stores to 7-Eleven for $ 21 billion.
Pipelines
The Pipe Line Holdings (Ohio River Pipe Line and Marathon Pipe Line) operates a network of 1,600 km of crude oil pipelines, 3,000 kilometers products lines and a butane - cavern storage . The Cornerstone Pipeline is currently under construction from the Utica Shale to the Canton Refinery.

MPC operates 5,460 filling stations under the “Marathon” brand, which was taken over in 2014 by the Hess Corporation . By 2020, Marathon operated 3,900 convenience stores under the “Speedway” brand, which were sold to 7-Eleven in August of this year . <
Oil tanker port
It has the offshore port for oil tankers, Louisiana Offshore Oil Port , as a joint venture (via Marathon Pipe Line ) with Shell Oil and the Valero Terminaling and Distribution Company.
