The Marcal [ ˈmɒrt͡sɑl ] is a right tributary of the Raab , which rises near Sümeg in the Bakony Forest in western Hungary . The river flows northwards and reaches the Little Hungarian Plain at Ukk . On the way there, the Marcal collects watercourses from the Bakony forest that flow from the right. In its lower reaches, the river runs to the northeast, similar to the Raab, from whose bends the Marcal often only separates one kilometer. Both rivers meet in Győr .
From the confluence of the Torna stream in October 2010, the river was contaminated by red mud from the Kolontár dam breach, which killed all aquatic life downstream.
