Marcel Răducanu (born October 21, 1954 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player .
Career
The dribbling national soccer player completed 21 international matches for the Romanian national soccer team . He was named Romanian Footballer of the Year in 1980 , won the Romanian league title twice and was twice Romanian cup winner.
In the summer of 1981, during a friendly match in Dortmund during the half-time break, he pulled away by means of a feigned injury. Since he was a player in the Romanian military team Steaua Bucharest , he also had a military rank (captain). His escape was therefore counted as desertion and he was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison in absentia.
After a one-year ban by UEFA and a lengthy legal battle - Răducanu had signed contracts with both Hannover 96 and Borussia Dortmund - he played for Borussia from 1982. Hannover 96 received half a million DM for transferring the rights to the preliminary contract with Răducanu. In total, he had played 167 Bundesliga games for Borussia Dortmund by 1988, scoring 31 goals.
In 1988 he moved for 200,000 DM together with Norbert Eder from FC Bayern Munich and with coach Hans Bongartz to FC Zurich , where he stayed for three years. Răducanu ended his career as a footballer at the age of 36 and acquired his license as a football teacher in Cologne in 1993. Since 1994 he has been running a football school in Dortmund.
