Marcin Hintz

Marcin Ryszard Hintz (born May 21, 1968 in Warsaw ) is a Polish Lutheran theologian , professor of systematic theology and since 2011 bishop for the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

life and work

Marcin Hintz grew up in Warsaw and studied 1987-1992 theology at Christian Theological Academy (CTAW) his hometown and from 1988 to 1993 philosophy at the local university . In 1993/94 he studied at the University of Bonn on a doctoral scholarship .

April 13, 1995 Hintz became the pastor of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland ordained ; from 1995 to 1998 he was vicar in the parish Żyrardów in the diocese of Warsaw .

In 2000 Hintz took over his first parish in the parish of Częstochowa (Czestochowa) and the branch parish in Lubliniec (Lublinitz) in the diocese of Katowice . In 2001 he received his doctorate in theology from an evangelical point of view at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw with a thesis on 1989 and completed his habilitation in systematic theology in 2008 .

On September 30, 2009 he was elected Protestant military chaplain (in Poland with officer rank). He also took over the leadership of the Polish National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation . On November 14, 2010 Hintz moved from Częstochowa to his second parish in the parish of Gdańsk - Sopot (Danzig-Sopot) based in Sopot. It was introduced here on November 28, 2010.

Only six days later the diocesan synod in Koszalin (Köslin) elected him in the second ballot with 23 of 43 votes as the new bishop of the Pomeranian-Greater Poland diocese, whose consistory is also in Sopot. He was thus elected to succeed Bishop Michał Warczyński , who was retiring at the end of 2010 and who had held this office for 18 years.

Hintz is married to Iwona born Raszka and has one daughter.
