Marco Lambertini (born November 14, 1958 in Livorno ) is an Italian chemist and environmentalist .

Life

Lambertini grew up in Italy and studied pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Pisa . In his youth he worked as a volunteer for the WWF. His professional career includes various positions at BirdLife: First, Lambertini was Director of the Italian Society for the Protection of Birds (BirdLife Italy), then he was appointed Director of Network and Programs at BirdLife International . From 2009 to 2014 he was Chief Executive Officer responsible for the organization's worldwide activities. Among other things, he led the Lazarus project for the search for extinct bird species and promoted the internationalization of BirdLife, for example through activities in China .

In 2014, Lambertini finally succeeded James P. Leape as General Director of the Swiss nature and environmental protection organization WWF . For example, he campaigned for the protection of the habitat of wild animals. Lambertini also strengthened the decentralization of the WWF and expanded its presence in Asia, Africa and South America.
