Marco Ratschiller

Marco Ratschiller (born January 26, 1974 in Bern ) is a Swiss journalist and cartoonist . He has been editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine Nebelspalter since 2005 .

Life

Ratschiller grew up in Bern and Freiburg . He studied contemporary history and German literary studies and graduated from the University of Freiburg with a licentiate in 2004 after spending semesters abroad in Brussels and Bonn . His licentiate thesis with Urs Altermatt was entitled «Threatened Switzerland: National self-images and enemy images in Swiss caricature of the 20th century» .

During his studies, Ratschiller worked from 1996 as a journalist and cartoonist ( artist name : Karma ) for the Freiburger Nachrichten (FN). In the same year he won a national comic book competition. In 2005 Ratschiller became editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine Nebelspalter . For a gentle relaunch in a new layout, he engaged numerous younger satirists such as Andreas Thiel , Simon Enzler and Pedro Lenz .

In 2008, Ratschiller, together with cartoonists friends, launched the exhibition Drawn , an annual review exhibition by Swiss press illustrators. In 2016, his caricature Inner Life of an Angry Citizen was voted Swiss Caricature of the Year.
