Marco d'Oggiono
Marco d'Oggiono , (* around 1475 in Oggiono near Milan , † around 1530 in Milan), was an Italian painter , fresco artist and draftsman.
Life
The origin of Marco d'Oggiono is largely in the dark. Around 1490/1491 he is documented as an employee of the Leonardo workshop in Milan. At that time he and Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio were commissioned to paint an altarpiece for the chapel of San Leonardo. Around 1494 this commission had not yet been carried out, so a new contract was signed in which the two painters are referred to as compagni depinctori . The work was completed in the same year. It was about a resurrection of Christ with the Saints Leonhard von Noblac and Lucia , which is now in the Berlin Gemäldegalerie . Around the same time, the famous Madonna Litta in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg was created , which is now also viewed by many art historians as a joint work by the two artists. A short time later, Marco d'Oggiono founded his own, successful workshop. Around 1497/1498 he was commissioned by the brotherhood of the Scuola di Sant'Ambrogio in Venice to paint several pictures for the chapel of the Frari church. It is documented in Savona around 1501/1502 . A short time later he is mentioned again in Milan.
In addition to his own works, Marco d'Oggiono was particularly in demand as a copyist of works by Leonardo da Vinci, of which numerous examples have survived. The best known are his copies after Leonardo's Last Supper. In addition, numerous independent works have been preserved that can be found in many museums today. In contrast to the paintings, only a few drawings are ascribed to him.
The monumental monument of Leonardo da Vinci on the Piazza della Scala in Milan shows Marco d'Oggiono, together with three other artists from the workshop of Leonardo ( Giovanni Boltraffio , Cesare da Sesto and Andrea Salaino ).
