Marcus Bierich

Marcus Bierich (born April 29, 1926 in Hamburg , † November 25, 2000 in Stuttgart ) was a German manager . Between 1984 and 1992 Bierich headed the electronics company Bosch as chairman of the board of management. He then moved to the Group's supervisory board.

Life and family

Marcus Bierich was born on April 29, 1926 in Hamburg, where his father was a professor of experimental biology and head of the Institute for Cancer Research at the university. On November 25, 2000, Marcus Bierich died of a brain tumor.

In addition to his work as a manager, Bierich was committed to literature and music. Among other things, he was chairman of the board of the Friends of the Schiller National Museum and the German Literature Archives in Marbach.

education

Bierich studied natural sciences , mathematics and philosophy . In 1951 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Bertrand Russell Dr. phil. He then completed a banking training at the Hamburg private bank Delbrück, Schickler & Co., at Hambros Bank in London and at the Manufacturers Trust Company in New York .

Professional background

Between 1961 and 1980 Bierich worked at Mannesmann AG , then he moved to Allianz as CFO . In 1984, Marcus Bierich took over the management of the electronics group Bosch, succeeding Hans L. Merkle , who, as a personally liable partner of Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG, kept the strings in hand.

An organizational reorganization of the Bosch Group began under Bierich. At the beginning of the 1990s, when automotive suppliers and the electrical industry were reorganized, Bosch got into a crisis. Bierich tried to push through a restructuring course, but failed because of Merkle's predecessor, without whose consent nothing was possible at Bosch. There was a rift between Bierich and Merkle. Even before his contract expired, Bierich retired to the Bosch supervisory board. Bierich's successor at Bosch was Hermann Scholl .

Bierich sat on a large number of other supervisory boards of German companies, such as that of the Heidenheim technology group Voith .
