Marcus Hofbauer (born June 14, 1981 in Vienna ) is an Austrian sports physician , trauma surgeon and non-fiction author .

Marcus Hofbauer completed his medical studies in 2004 with a minimum duration of ten semesters at the Medical University of Vienna . He then began training in trauma surgery and sports traumatology.

Marcus Hofbauer practices, researches and teaches as a senior physician at the Medical University of Vienna ( AKH Vienna) where he is head of clinical research for sports medicine and joint preservation . Also at the Medical University in Vienna. His specialty includes the care of sports injuries. Here, knee and shoulder interventions as well as minimally invasive arthroscopic joint interventions are Hofbauer's specialty.

In 2012 he was the first Austrian sports surgeon to win the AGA-Aircast Pittsburgh Research Fellowship, which led him to the Department of Sports Orthopedics at the University of Pittsburgh . Here, under the direction of Freddie Fu, he acquired advanced sports traumatology skills and treatment concepts, especially in the area of ​​cruciate ligament surgery. In 2015 he became a specialist in trauma surgery and received the ÖÄK diploma for sports medicine from the Austrian Medical Association .

Marcus Hofbauer was before 2004-2006 team doctor of the Austrian men's national handball team and 2004-2012 team doctor of the Austrian women's handball national team from 2009 to 2012, he was also team physician at FC Admira Wacker .
