Marcus Koch (special effects artist)

Marcus Koch (born March 18, 1977 in Dunedin , Florida ) is an American special effects artist and film director .

Life

Marcus Koch grew up as a horror film fan in the 1980s and began to be interested in special effects at a young age. As a child he experimented with paper mache and began making short films with special effects. He later drew inspiration from artists such as Frank Henenlotter , John Waters , Gabe Bartalos and Tom Savini .

His first professional work as an SFX artist came about in 1997 with Alien Agenda: Under the Skin and Attack of the Killer Manatee . In 1999 he made his directorial debut Rot , an independent film for the video market. Marcus Koch specialized primarily in splatter films and worked with directors such as Andreas Schnaas ( Nikos the Impaler , 2003) and Herschell Gordon Lewis ( The Uh-oh Show , 2009). He later founded Oddtopsy FX, a special effects company for independent horror films. For Citizen Toxie , the fourth part of Atomic Hero ( Toxic Avenger ), he created some body parts and fluids, he received no credit because the producer he worked with was later fired.

His second feature film, 100 Tears, followed in 2007 . After doing the effects for American Guinea Pig in 2014 , a kind of tribute to the Japanese shock films in the Guinea Pig film series , he was allowed to direct the second part American Guinea Pig 2: Bloodshock .
