Marek Krejčí (born November 20, 1980 in Bratislava , † May 26, 2007 near Maitenbeth , Upper Bavaria ) was a Slovak national football player .

Career

The striker began his athletic career at Inter Bratislava . In November 2000 he moved to the first division club Spartak Trnava , before moving to the Hungarian club Győri ETO FC in September 2001 . In summer 2003 Krejčí signed a contract with the Slovak runner-up Artmedia Bratislava , with whom he won the Slovak Cup in the 2003/04 season. In the Slovak league he was runner-up with FC Artmedia. He himself was the second top scorer in the league with 15 goals.

Since August 2004 Krejčí played for the German second division club SV Wacker Burghausen , with whom he was relegated to the regional league at the end of the 2006/07 season as the penultimate in the table . In the 2006/2007 season he scored seven goals in 28 games; In total, he scored 26 times in 87 second division games.

After Krejčí had already played some games in the Slovak national junior soccer team, he made his debut on March 31, 2004 in the jersey of the Slovak national soccer team ; Krejčí played the first half in Slovakia’s 1-1 draw against Austria , but was substituted for Róbert Vittek after the break . It was his only game for the Slovak national team.

In the early morning of May 26, 2007, Krejčí came off the road with his Audi S3 near Maitenbeth in Upper Bavaria, crashed into a tree and was trapped in his car. The fire brigade could only rescue him dead. Krejčí was traveling alone and no other vehicles were involved in the accident. He left behind his wife and a ten year old adopted daughter. His shirt number 11 will no longer be reassigned in honor of SV Wacker Burghausen.
