Ludwig II (Württemberg)
Ludwig II. (* Around 1137 ; † 1181 ) was Count of Württemberg from 1158 to 1181 .
He was married to Willibirg (* 1142, † 1179), daughter of Count Hartmann III. from Kirchberg .
Documents in which a Württemberg ruler with the name Ludwig is mentioned exist with the addition Graf up to 1154. These are presumably related to Ludwig I. Until 1166 the name Ludwig is mentioned without the title of count. The first mention of Ludwig II with the title of Count dates back to 1181 in a document from Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa . A certain sequence of rulers for the House of Württemberg cannot be established before 1200 ; the secured series begins with Ludwig's sons Hartmann I and Ludwig III . The reason for this is also the destruction resulting from the dispute between cities and counts in the 14th century, when the townspeople plundered the Beutelsbach collegiate church and destroyed all the inscriptions and coats of arms of the "Counts of Wirtemberg" buried there.
