history

Beutelsbach was first mentioned around 1080 and is one of the oldest possessions of the House of Württemberg . It was acquired in 1080 through the marriage of Konrad von Württemberg to Luitgard von Beutelsbach . The secular canon monastery was probably founded in the 11th century and was later expanded by Count Ulrich I of Württemberg . The collegiate church in Beutelsbach was then the burial place of the House of Württemberg until the monastery was destroyed in 1311 and then moved to Stuttgart.

The uprising of " Poor Conrad " had its origin in Beutelsbach in May 1514 . Since 1989 a peasant war museum in the old town hall of Beutelsbach has been commemorating the fights of the peasants in 1514 and 1525.

In 1968 the remains of Beutelsbach Castle were discovered on the Kappelberg . The old Württemberg place belonged to the office or Oberamt Schorndorf and after its dissolution in 1938 came to the district of Waiblingen .

The basic principles of political education in Germany were laid down in Beutelsbach in 1976 under the name “ Beutelsbach Consensus ” and are still important elements of political didactics today.

structure

The town of Beutelsbach included the village of Beutelsbach, the Schönbühl homestead and the residential areas in Burg and the Benzach settlement, with an area of 7.69 km². On January 1, 1975, the community merged with the previously independent communities of Endersbach with Strümpfelbach , Großheppach and Schnait to form the new community of Weinstadt .
