Beutelsbach Castle

The castle Beutelsbach , also castle ruins Kappelberg called, is the ruin of a Spur castle in the district Beutelsbach the city wine town in the Rems-Murr in Baden-Wuerttemberg and oldest seat of Württemberg.

history

Presumably the castle was built by the Württemberg people in the 11th century as the first family castle. It protected the Kaiserstraße , an important road connection in the Middle Ages that led across the Schurwald into the Filstal . Around 1080 the people of Württemberg called themselves after Beutelsbach until they moved to Wirtemberg Castle and took over its name.

The castle was probably already in ruins at the time. It was mentioned in 1252 and destroyed in 1312. The castle chapel next to the ruins was the scene of the uprising of " Poor Conrad " in 1514 . However, the facts are thin.

1968 were on a 310  m above sea level. NN high mountain spur, the foundation walls and ruins of the castle were rediscovered and exposed during work in the course of the vineyard consolidation . The archaeologists only had two weeks for an emergency excavation. Because of the leveling work at that time, new results are hardly to be expected today.

The subsequently reconstructed ruin does not correspond to scientific findings. Nevertheless, the ruins are one of the most historically significant sites in the country.
