Urbach Castle

Urbach Castle , also Eislinger'sches Castle , is a castle built in the 17th century on older remains in Urbach in the Rems-Murr district .

history

In Urbach, a castle was first mentioned in 1434 in a deed between Georg von Urbach and Ludwig I von Württemberg-Urach . Ludwig I enfeoffed Georg von Urbach with ⅓ of his property in Ober- and Unterurbach as well as the castle. Due to previous deeds of purchase in Urbach, the castle was probably built between 1419 and 1434. In 1440 the castle was sold by Georg von Urbach to Johann von Blosenstaufen. The latter in turn sold it to Ulrich V von Württemberg in 1464 for 2,400 guilders . In 1481 the castle was built by Count Eberhard VI. von Württemberg awarded the castle to Georg von Winkenthal as a man's fief, who sold the castle to Veit von Horkheim in 1501. In 1530 at the latest, the castle was given up as a fief by Veit von Horkheim and the castle fell into disrepair. In 1565, the ducal councilor Balthasar Eislinger from Schwäbisch Gmünd bought the castle stables from Duke Christoph von Württemberg and began building a new castle in 1567. The facility, completed in 1569, remained in the possession of the Eislinger family until the 18th century. In 1883, after several changes of ownership, the palace was finally acquired by the “Committee of the Institution for Released Female Prisoners of Evangelical Denomination”, which had it rebuilt by the architects Wittmann & Stahl from Stuttgart. In 1888, a wash house was also added to the south-west corner of the courtyard. In 1928, the architect Stahl completed an extension to the main building, which, however, was demolished again in 1988. After the home moved out in 1980, the community bought the castle and subsequently had it renovated. From 1990 the building was to be used as a retirement home.
