history

In the first half of the 12th century the castle was built by the Lords of Winnenden and in 1181 the keep was built by Gottfried von Winnenden on the hilltop.

In 1210 the castle was mentioned as "castrum Winidum", and in 1212 and 1225 it was expanded. The gentlemen von Neuffen are also named as other owners . The castle fell into disrepair in the 15th century and was demolished from 1536 to 1538 except for the keep.

Todays use

The still preserved tower is surrounded by a hotel on two sides and is part of its complex. It is therefore not open to the public. Visually, only the tower indicates the existence of a castle at the location. The older buildings of the hotel were expanded again and again with numerous additions.

Of the former fort-like castle complex , only the round 23 meter high keep with a diameter of 7.5 meters and a wall thickness of 2.8 meters with humpback ashlar masonry remains.
