The Margaret Court Arena (MCA) is a multifunctional arena with a closable roof in the Australian metropolis of Melbourne in the state of Victoria . The arena is part of Melbourne Park in the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct .
history
The Margaret Court Arena was originally built in 1987 as a pure tennis stadium with 6,000 seats for the Australian Open in the National Tennis Center and was initially called Show Court One . On 12 January 2003, it was named in honor of the famous Australian tennis player and twenty-four times Grand Slam champion Margaret Court in Margaret Court Arena renamed. In 2010 it was announced that Show Court One would be transformed into a multi-purpose arena with a roof that could be closed in five minutes. In addition to tennis or other sports, concerts or shows could also be held there. The renovation should be part of the modernization of the tennis facility with investments of 700 million AU $ .
On October 7, 2014, the renovated arena was inaugurated by its namesake. This makes the former Show Court One the tennis facility's third venue after the Rod Laver Arena and the Hisense Arena with a mobile roof structure.
The basketball team Melbourne United from the NBL has been using the sports facility for some of their games since 2014 . In 2015, the women's netball team of the Melbourne Vixens ( ANZ Championship ) followed in the arena. Both teams also used the Hisense Arena.
