Margaret Lindsay (born September 19, 1910 in Dubuque , Iowa , † May 9, 1981 in Los Angeles , California ; born Margaret Kies ) was an American actress.

Life

Lindsay made her film debut in 1932 in the pre-code film Okay, America! . Margaret Lindsay played her first leading role in 1933 on the side of William Powell in the crime drama The Detective and the Gambler . She achieved one of her greatest successes in 1938 on the side of Bette Davis and Henry Fonda in the film drama Jezebel - The Malicious Lady . Lindsay previously starred in three other Warner films alongside Davis: as her sister in Nebel über Frisco (1934); in Dangerous (1935), for which Davis won her first Oscar ; and in City on the Border , with Paul Muni in the lead role. She shot her last movie in 1963 with Sandra and the Doctor alongside Sandra Dee .

In later years, Lindsay also appeared in television productions, such as B. in an episode of the comedic western series Pistols and Petticoats with the title Ein Colt for Sorry Water , which was also successful in Germany , before it largely withdrew from the public in 1967. In 1974 she made a brief comeback in a television movie. In total, she was seen in almost 100 film and television productions.

Lindsay has a star on the Walk of Fame (6318 Hollywood Blvd.). Her older sister was the actress Jane Gilbert . Margaret Lindsay was buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City , California .
