Margareta Bengtson

Margareta Bengtson , also Margareta Jalkéus (born February 21, 1966 near Stockholm ), is a Swedish jazz singer and harpist . She also wrote and arranged several songs.

Her repertoire is broad and includes jazz, Schlager, Swedish folk tunes and classical works from Hildegard von Bingen to Richard Strauss as well as interpretations of pieces by Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush . She is usually accompanied by a pianist, a jazz combo or big band , sometimes she plays along with her own harp or plays classical pieces from Bach to Saint-Saëns for solo harp.

Life

Margareta Bengtson is the daughter of a family of musicians. Her father Stig and her brother Jan are solo flutists, her mother Ingrid Enquist-Bengtson is a soprano and singing teacher. Margareta first studied harp at the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm . On the side, she founded the a cappella quintet The Real Group with four colleagues in 1984 , to which she belonged until 2006. She was married to his bassist Anders Jalkéus for some time. The couple had a daughter Anna Jalkéus, who is now also a respected jazz singer and harpist, and a son Erik, who plays the electric bass and double bass.

In 1997 she was named "Best Female Vocalist" by the Contemporary A Cappella Society . The list of musicians who have worked with her is long. These include Nils Landgren , Magnus Lindgren , Elise Einarsdotter, Nils Lindberg and Svante Thuresson . In 2012 she was on a European tour with Anne Sofie von Otter with the Advent program “Home for Christmas” .
