Margareta Wöss

Margareta Wöss , also Margarete, née Gnad (born June 8, 1921 in Vienna ; † December 25, 1999 there ) was an Austrian musicologist and cultural manager .

Life

Margareta Wöss studied piano and harpsichord with Bruno Seidlhofer at the Vienna Conservatory and the Vienna Music Academy from 1941 to 1943, as well as musicology, German and art history at the University of Vienna , where she received her doctorate in 1947. PhD . She then worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Vienna and from 1951 to 1954 lecturer in German and musicology at the University of Tokyo . Afterwards she was a music writer and music critic.

From 1962 to 1987 she headed the Music Directorate of the City of Linz and the Brucknerhaus Linz, in the establishment and development of which she played a key role alongside director Horst Stadlmayr .

She was married to the conductor Kurt Wöss . Both daughters are the Japanologist Fleur Sakura Wöss .
