Margarete Adler

Margarete Adler (born February 13, 1896 in Vienna ; † April 10, 1990 ) was an Austrian swimmer .

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912, swimming competitions for women were on the program for the first time. On July 8th, Adler was eliminated from the 100-meter freestyle competition in the fourth preliminary run. On July 15, 1912, Margarete Adler, Klara Milch , Josephine Sticker and Bertha Zahourek won the bronze medal in the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay behind the relays from the United Kingdom and Germany. This made the four swimmers the first Austrian women to win an Olympic medal. At 16 years and 152 days, Margarete Adler was the youngest Austrian Olympic medalist for many years.

Twelve years after Stockholm, Margarete Adler took part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris . She was eliminated in the preliminary competition of high diving .
