from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Margarete Pausinger , b. Brunner, (* 1880 in Weyer ; † February 7, 1956 in Lambach ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Live and act

Brunner spent her childhood in Tamsweg . After her marriage to the doctor von Pausinger , she lived in Lambach. She was a student of Michaela Pfaffinger , Bertha von Tarnóczy , Rosa Scherer and Matthias May in Linz and studied in Berlin . In 1922 she became a member of the MAERZ artists' association .

She devoted herself to naturalism and was known for her woodcuts . She was one of the few female members of the Upper Austrian Art Association and took part in exhibitions both in the interwar period and during the Second World War.

She was a member of the NSDAP from 1937 and verifiably denounced fellow citizens in 1939. A street in Lambach originally named after her in 1958 was renamed after a controversial discussion in the 2010s. 16 works by the artist were also removed, ten in the Heimathaus and six in Lambach's town hall. In 2006 the Lambach municipal council decided that Margarete Pausinger was wrongly granted honorary citizenship in 1953.
