Margarete Slezak (born January 9, 1909 in Breslau ; † August 30, 1953 in Rottach-Egern ) was a German opera and concert singer.

Life

Margarete Slezak was the sister of the actor Walter Slezak and the daughter of the opera singer and film comedian Leo Slezak , who trained her soprano voice and made her learn several instruments such as the violin and saxophone . Elsa Wertheim , an actress, was her mother. Her first engagement took her from 1930 to 1933 at the State Opera Unter den Linden . From 1935 to 1943 she was a member of the ensemble of the German Opera House Berlin-Charlottenburg.

After the Second World War, Margarete Slezak also performed in South America and Southeast Europe . She also sang in Berlin at the Theater des Westens , at the Berlin State Opera and in the Wintergarten . After her father's death in 1946, she managed the Slezak house in Rottach-Egern, where she lived with her husband, the singer Peter Winter. In addition to her musical obligations, she played in various German film comedies such as Des Lebens Überfluss , Derby , The veiled Maja , Girls with Relationships , King for a Night and The Man on the Wire . In 1951 she played the role of Madame Yvonne in the drama Rausch einer Nacht .

The book Mein Lebensmärchen , which she published in 1947, is a record of her father's memoirs, which she collected in the last months of his life and published on his behalf after his death. The appearance of her own biography The apple does not fall far from the tree , however, she did not live to see . In 2014 the biographical novel Girls with Relationships by Hanna von Feilitzsch was self-published.

Her grave is in the St. Laurentius churchyard (Egern) .
