History and architecture

Portal view

The church was first mentioned in 1147 as the property of St. Heribert in Cologne-Deutz and is therefore the oldest church building in Kierspe.

The rectangular sermon hall with a flat end of the choir and a mighty curved roof was built from 1816 to 1819 according to plans by Philipp Leonhard Pistor as a conversion of a hall church from the 14th century. The strong west tower is crowned with an onion dome. The outer walls with buttresses and tracery windows have been preserved from the 14th century church . A three-sided gallery was built into the interior . At the end of the Second World War, the building was damaged by shelling. Renovation work was carried out from 1947 to 1969. The original barrel ceiling was removed.

Furnishing

  • The pulpit altar with high columns and composite capitals swings into the room.
  • The six-sided baptismal font made of trachyte in columnar chalice shape is from the beginning of the 13th century.
  • The two bells were cast in the 13th and 14th centuries.
