Margarita Grun

Margarita Grun (alternative spelling of the name Grün ; * March 24, 1954 ) is a former Uruguayan athlete who competed in the sprint disciplines .

Grun grew up in La Tablada , Montevideo . She started in 1975 for the Stokolmo Club . That year she won bronze at the South American Athletics Championships in Rio de Janeiro over 200 m and took part in the Pan American Games in Mexico City over 200 m and 400 m without reaching the final. In 1979 she won silver over 400 m at the South American Championships in Bucaramanga .

At the South American Games in Argentina in 1982 , she won silver in national record times in the 200 m and 400 m (24.70 s and 54.6 s).

In 1983 she reached the quarter-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 200 m and 400 m. Over 400 m, however, she did not start, over 200 m she was eliminated in seventh place despite a personal best of 24.59 s. At the Pan American Games in Caracas , she was eighth over 200 m. and at the South American Championships in Santa Fe , she won bronze over 200 meters. Her last major international success was on August 13, 1985, a bronze medal over 400 m at the 1985 South American Championships in Santiago de Chile. This was the fastest race of her career over the 400-meter distance, in which she set the national record of 54.39 s. improved.

As before, she successfully took part in senior competitions in 2012 at the age of 58. In 2013 she started for the Club Nacional de Football , for which she works together with Berenice da Silva as a trainer at the club's junior athletics school. In the age group of 55 to 59 year olds, she is currently (as of October 7, 2013) the holder of the South American record in the 4 x 400 meter relay .
