Margot Klee

Margot Klee (born January 15, 1952 in Wiesbaden ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist and author .

Origin and education

Margot Klee grew up in Wiesbaden, attended elementary school here and then until 1970 the Helene Lange School - at that time a high school for girls. Here she graduated from high school in 1970. In the same year she began studying classical archeology and ancient history at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1974 she moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and continued her studies with a major in Provincial Roman Archeology . Here she received her doctorate in 1982 with a thesis on the northern vicus by Arae Flaviae on the northern edge of Rottweil .

In her private life she is involved in the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN). She was a member of the regional synod and since the end of 2009 she has been chairwoman of the church council of the market parish of Wiesbaden . Her great-grandfather was vicar in Wiesbaden.

The archaeologist was after studying mainly in the monuments and the museum area involved: stations were the Landesdenkmalamt Baden-Wuerttemberg in Stuttgart , the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums in Mannheim , the Saalburg Roman fort and finally the Museum Wiesbaden , where she served as Oberkustodin responsible for the Roman department was. On November 1, 2017, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her voluntary work and her journalistic activities.
