Margret Rumat Rumar Hassan (born August 12, 1997 in Wau , Sudan ) is a South Sudanese sprinter .

Career

Because of the civil war in Sudan , Hassan and her family left their hometown of Wau .

Hassan first started playing football but switched to athletics in 2012 . At the urging of a friend, she began to practice athletics professionally.

For the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games , Hassan was selected as an independent Olympic participant and started over 400 meters. At the opening ceremony she was the flag bearer.

At the 2016 African Athletics Championships , she ran over 200 meters for a time of 27.61 s.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she was eliminated in the preliminary run with a new personal best of 26.99 s in the 200 m competition and was 71st overall.
