architecture

The church, which is essentially late Gothic, stands on a place where a church was probably built in the time of St. Rupert of Salzburg around 700 .

The exterior of the church is simple. The tower, built in 1868, is too small in relation to the nave. At that time the church was extended by a yoke to the west. Whether there was a tower before the extension and how it looked has not yet been researched.

The interior is accessed through the vestibule and a late Gothic portal made of Adnet marble (a limestone) that was created around 1500. In the vestibule (and to the side of the high altar) you can see grave slabs of some of the keepers and judges from Staufeneck Castle . The interior of the church was rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century. The right-angled hall is structured by rococo stucco, which was probably made by the Wessobrunn master Tassilo Zöpf. The clear design of the room already indicates the classical style . The coats of arms of the client, the provost of Höglwörth, and the Höglwörth monastery (crossed keys) are attached to the choir arch . The Rococo furniture from around 1760 is believed to have been made by Dominikus Plasisganik, a sculptor who was based in Piding and who created numerous religious works of art throughout the Salzburg region.

Two figures stand on the side of the high altar: St. Augustine on the left (the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of Höglwörth provided the pastors) and on the right St. John Nepomuk . Since Piding was threatened by floods again and again, the saint of bridges and rivers was supposed to protect the place from such misfortune. In the middle of the high altar, angel figures pay homage to a Madonna. This figure is said to be of late Gothic origin and changed in the 19th century. The essay shows God the Father with a globe and scepter. In the chancel arch hangs a crucifix, modeled on Gothic churches, which in a rococo church represents a break in style and affects the spatial impression. It was probably installed in the 19th century. There are two sculptures under the choir arch: Maria Immaculata , left, and Saint Joseph, right.

The right side altar shows a rosary picture from 1670, on which the donors of the work are depicted. On the side there are figures of Saints Isidore and Notburga, patrons of the peasants and servants, in the excerpt a picture of Saint Sebastian. The altar sheet of the left side altar shows the Annunciation to Mary by the Archangel Gabriel ( Georg Gschwendtner, 1959 ). The figures on the sides are Saints Francis of Assisi , left and Anthony of Padua , right. The picture in the extract shows the plague saint Rochus .

The pulpit on the south wall is crowned by the figure of Christ as the Good Shepherd. Also on the south wall is a large painting with a Pietà , Our Lady of Sorrows . The church stalls are from the 19th century.

There is no representation of the patronage of the Church, the birth of Mary .
