The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the village church of Schmalwasser , a district of Sandberg in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . The church is one of the architectural monuments of Sandberg and is registered together with the Golgotha ​​cross in the cemetery under the number D-6-73-162-25 in the Bavarian list of monuments . Schmalwasser is part of the parish community “Die Walddörfer”.

history

Schmalwasser initially belonged to the parish of Steinach (today part of Bad Bocklet ). On May 5, 1716, the construction of a separate church for the place began. This was consecrated on July 26, 1725 by the Würzburg auxiliary bishop Johann Bernhard Mayer. After the place was later assigned to the parish of Burgwallbach , it got its own chaplain in 1874 . In 1947/48 the church was expanded. Schmalwasser has belonged to the parish of Sandberg since 1970.

description

The church is a single building with a nave and choir in the north. The nave has had three window axes since the extension . On the gable roof , a rising roof skylights with welscher hood .

Furnishing

The altars and the pulpit were made when the church was built. A painting of the Assumption of Mary can be seen on the high altar . The organ is placed on the southern gallery . In the roof turret hang three bells with the tones a ′ - c ″ - d ″.
