The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Burgtreswitz is now a branch church of the Roman Catholic Parish Moosbach . The church is located in the district of Burgtreswitz in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab (church square).

history

A castle chapel is mentioned in the description of the castle from 1788. Remains of the old castle chapel are still visible in the castle courtyard. The chapel itself was demolished during the Calvinist period. Count Palatine Friedrich III. had ordered the destruction of all pictures and the removal of the altars and baptismal fonts in a church ordinance; instead of the wafers, rolls should be used at the Lord's Supper, and instead of the chalice , simple drinking utensils should be used. Obviously the castle chapel was restored in the time of the Counter-Reformation , because in 1628 the caretaker Schadt asked whether the pastor of Moosach should hold mass here again. Charges to the pastor of Moosach are attested from the Burgtreswitz chaplain , as well as income from two weekly masses, which are financed by the Erckbrechthausen Foundation. In 1785 a door from the courtyard into the sacristy was broken out so that people could go in and out more easily.

From 1857 to 1859 a neo-Gothic church was built by the municipality of Burgtreswitz to replace the ruined palace chapel. For this purpose, four pen fairs were approved.

In 1908 the church was renovated by the painter Steiniger from Vohenstrauss . Further renovations were carried out in 1955 and 1972–1974. Permission to keep the sanctuary was given in 1960. Mass is held in the church every Wednesday; on other days the church is closed.

Interior decoration

The listed interior apparently comes from the old castle chapel. The altar contains a figure of Mary as the Immaculate Conception in the middle , framed on the left and right by twisted columns. On the right her mother Anna and on the left her father, St. Joachim . There is a statue of St. Barbara , patroness of the artillery and the miners in the altar extension . The pulpit with the four evangelists and a sound cover held as a crown is also designed in the Baroque style .

Bells

One of the two bells in the castle chapel had burst; this was given to the Spannagl bell foundry in Regensburg and re-cast. During the Second World War , the Reich Office for Metals decided on May 22, 1942, to deliver a bell. In the meantime the church has two bells again with an electrically operated chime.
