Maria Amalia von Habsburg (born April 5, 1724 in Vienna ; † April 19, 1730 there ) was an Archduchess of Austria . She was a daughter of Emperor Charles VI. and by Elisabeth Christine von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . Her older sister was Maria Theresia .

Life

Maria Amalia was the youngest child of her parents and her birth, like that of her sister Maria Anna , was not well received by her father, who had wanted a son and heir. Karl had already issued the pragmatic sanction in 1713, and now his daughters were also entitled to inherit. In 1740, after the death of Charles, his eldest daughter Maria Theresa was the first to claim this privilege. But Maria Amalia did not experience this anymore; she died in 1730 at the age of only 6. She was the last member of the Austrian Habsburgs . However, since Maria Theresa was not allowed to ascend the imperial throne as a woman, Karl Albrecht of Bavaria succeeded Charles VI in 1742 . elected. Maria Theresa's husband Franz Stephan von Lothringen founded the Habsburg-Lothringen dynasty .
