Maria Fischer (born August 15, 1967 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) and self-employed.

On January 25, 2013, Fischer succeeded Manfred Wegscheider , who moved to Kapfenberg as mayor , as a member of the Styrian state parliament . In June 2015, she initially resigned from the state parliament. After Jörg Leichtfried was sworn in as Minister of Transport and Anton Lang moved from the Landtag to the government as the new Landtag, Fischer took on a mandate again in June 2016. In the state parliament she was active in the economic, social, labor, finance and municipal committees; today she is in the Europe , municipalities and petitions committees .

In addition to her function as a member of parliament, she is the local party chairman of the SPÖ in Spital am Semmering . In 2005 she moved to the municipal council of Spital am Semmering and since 2010 she has been the vice mayor . In addition, she is the regional chairwoman of the Upper Styria East region (Bruck-Mürzzuschlag) and deputy chairwoman of the district party. After the state election in 2019 , she left the state parliament on December 17, 2019.

Fischer is self-employed and has been running a market in Spital am Semmering since 2007. Despite her appointment to the state parliament, she has not given it up because she sees her livelihood in it. "Politics is interesting, I live it, but it can still be over tomorrow", Fischer is realistic.
