Maria Grün (artist)

Maria Grün (born September 25, 1977 in Vienna ) is an Austrian visual artist . She lives and works in Vienna and mainly deals with object sculpture (especially kinetic objects and room installations ), but also drawings . In collaboration with other artists, she expanded her spectrum to include photography and video works.

Life

Grün studied sculpture at the Vienna Art School from 1998 to 2002 , which she graduated with a diploma in sculpture, and sociology at the University of Vienna from 2001 to 2009 , from where she received her bachelor's degree (Bakk. Phil). From 2010 to 2018 she studied transdisciplinary art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, which she completed with a master's degree.

Maria Grün is a founding member of Galerie Schleifmühlgasse 12-14, which has been in existence since 2007 . Since 2008 she has been a member of the artist group AG67 and GrÜnsch AG . In 2017 she co-founded the exhibition space GOMO - space for contemporary art and discourse . Since January 2018 she has been the area coordinator for painting and graphics at Künstlerhaus Wien .

Maria Grün's kinetic objects are often hyperrealistically shaped organs made of silicone. They address the inside of the body and the volatility of its substance. Her main focus is on the growing together of the human body with machines in the form of an interlocking of organic and mechanical elements.
