Maria Keller , later married Maria Keller-Siller , (born November 22, 1893 in Hirtenberg , Austria-Hungary , † 1990 ) was an Austrian athlete .

Life

Maria Keller was born on November 22nd, 1893 in the village of Hirtenberg in Triestingtal . She was considered versatile and appeared in various sports. She was active as a skier and swimmer . Mainly, however, she appeared in athletics and won numerous championships in this sport and set new Austrian records. As a member of the Danubia women's sports club , she was Austrian champion nine times between 1918 and 1921. Including in the years 1918, 1919 and 1921 in the 100-meter run , in the high jump and in the long jump . She is also a multiple Austrian record holder over 100 meters, in high jump and long jump. On December 2, 1917, the then 17-year-old Adele Bierbrauer undercut the record over 100 meters with a time of 14.4 seconds on April 14, 1918 with a time of 13.9 seconds. Just two weeks later, she undercut her own personal best and set another Austrian national record with a time of 13.2 seconds. On December 2, 1917, Keller set a new Austrian high jump record with a height of 1.25 meters and on April 14, 1918, he already reached a height of 1.30 meters. On June 9, 1918, her record was broken by Helene Rittenauer (* 1894; †?). Already on June 30, 1918, she managed to jump over 1.33 meters and almost one year later to the day, on June 28, 1919, she made a jump of 1.39 meters. The first three noted Austrian long jump records for women are also attributable to Maria Keller. On April 28, 1918, it set a new Austrian record with a width of 4.63. She surpassed this on June 15, 1919 and made it to 4.82 meters; at another competition in Berlin on July 24, 1921, she was able to improve again and achieved a new Austrian long jump record for women with 5.12 meters. She also appeared in discus throwing , shot put and relay races. Hardly anything is known about her later life.
