Archduchess Maria Klementine of Austria

Maria Klementine Josepha Johanna Fidelis (born April 24, 1777 in Poggio , † November 15, 1801 in Naples ) was an Archduchess of Austria .

Life

Archduchess Maria Klementine was a daughter of Leopold II , Holy Roman Emperor from 1790 to 1792, as well as King of Bohemia, Hungary and Croatia from the House of Habsburg-Lorraine and Princess Maria Ludovica of Spain .

After Leopold II had received the imperial title in 1790, he arranged a triple wedding between his children and three children of his favorite sister Maria Karolina : his sons Franz and Ferdinand received Maria Karolina's daughters Maria Theresia and Luisa as their wife, while Maria Klementine's cousin Franz I. di Borbone , who later became King of Naples-Sicily, was chosen as husband. Since Maria Klementine was only 13 years old at the time, she was married to her groom by procuram in Vienna on September 19, 1790 , but her personal wedding to Franz did not take place until June 25, 1797 in Foggia . As the sister of Emperor Leopold II, her mother-in-law was also her aunt.

Maria Klementine's marriage was a happy one, and she gave birth to two children. However, she suffered from a serious lung disease from which, further weakened by her births, she died on November 15, 1801 at the age of only 24. She was buried in the burial chapel of the Bourbons in the Basilica of Santa Chiara in Naples.
