Maria Helena Saarni , b. Selin , (born September 8, 1977 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last active for Harjun Kiekko in the second-rate Naisten Mestis .
Career
Maria Saarni, née Selin, began her career at Karhu-Kissat before moving to Kiekko-Espoo in the 1990s and playing for Kiekko in Naisten SM-sarja . In 1996 she was nominated for the European Championship and won the bronze medal with the Finnish national team . Two years later, at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , she won the Olympic bronze medal. In 1998, Kiekko-Espoo was renamed Espoo Blues.
Saarni won the Finnish championship with the Blues in 1999 and 2000 , as well as two other bronze medals at the 1999 and 2000 World Championships . After these successes she moved to the Jyväskylän Hockey Cats , for which she was active in the 2000/01 season in the SM-sarja. It was then inactive until 2009, before running for LoKV between 2009 and 2011 .
Her last position at first was the Harjun Kiekko club, founded in 2014 , for which she was active in the Naisten Mestis in the 2016/17 season .
