Maria Teresa Cabré i Castellví (born February 10, 1947 in Argentera ) is a Spanish linguist and professor of linguistics and terminology at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona (Spain).

Life and work

Maria Teresa Cabré i Castellví was born in Argentera in Catalonia in 1947 . Cabré graduated from the University of Barcelona in 1969 with a degree in Philosophy and Romance Studies (Spanish) . She initially worked as an assistant professor for the Autonomous University of Barcelona (academic year 1969–1970), later she moved to the University of Barcelona. Between 1970 and 1971 she also taught at the University of the Balearic Islands . She received her doctorate in 1977 from the University of Barcelona with a dissertation on Lenguajes especiales: Estudio léxico-semántico (German: " Technical languages: a lexical-semantic investigation") and between 1984 and 1990 she held a professorship at the university. Between 1990 and 1994 she worked as a professor of descriptive linguistics of the Catalan language at the University of Barcelona. Since 1994 Maria Teresa Cabré has been teaching technical language , linguistics, morphology and terminology at the Pompeu Fabra University .

From 1982 to 1988 she was director of the Catalan Terminology Center Termcat. In addition, from 1993 to 2004 she was director of the Institut Universitari de Lingüistica Aplicada at the University of Pompeu Fabra and from 1998 to 2001 director of the Centro de Referencia de Ingenería Lingüística (CREL). Maria Teresa Cabré is a founding member of the Associació Catalana de Terminologia (ACATERM) and the Asociación Española de Lexicografía (AeLEX). She is the director of the Red Iberoamericana de Terminología (Riterm), the Red Panlatina de Terminología (Realiter), and the lexical group of the European Linguistic Research Association. She is also a member of the Associació Europea Terminologia (AET), the Red Internacional de Terminología (TermNet), the Center de Referència en Enginyeria Lingüística and research director of the IULATERM group.

In the past, she has also given guest lectures and seminars in Spain and abroad, including in Valencia , Vigo , Tarragona , Buenos Aires , Lima and Dakar . In addition, she has held visiting professorships at various universities outside of Spain, such as the Paris University of Pierre and Marie Curie (Jussieu), the Instituto de Linguística Teórica e Computacional (ILTEC) in Lisbon and at the University of Liverpool .

In 2007 she received the international Eugen Wüster Prize for special achievements in terminology research and science.
