Maria Theresia zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg
Maria Theresia zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg , full first name Maria Theresia Sophie Pia Anna Melchiora (born January 4, 1870 in Rome , † January 17, 1935 in Vienna ) was a daughter of Prince Charles VI. Heinrich Ernst zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg and wife of the then Portuguese pretender to the throne , Duke Michael von Braganza .
Life
Maria Theresia zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg was the fifth of eight children of Prince Karl VI. Heinrich Ernst zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg and his second wife Sophie von und zu Liechtenstein (1837–1899), daughter of the ruling Prince Alois II (Liechtenstein) .
On November 8, 1893, the princess married the then Portuguese pretender to the throne, Duke Michael von Braganza, at her family residence at Löwenstein Castle in Kleinheubach . He was born as the cousin of Princess Maria Theresa, since her father, Prince Charles VI. a brother of Adelheid von Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg , who was the duke's mother. He lived as a widower and brought 3 children from the previous relationship into the marriage; his father was the long-dead exiled king Michael I of Portugal .
Michael von Braganza served as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian army and retired from active service when Portugal entered the First World War . Since October 12, 1917 he held the rank of kuk field marshal lieutenant . From then on he was involved in the supranational Order of Malta . Since he was not allowed to enter Portugal, he lived with his family in the prelate building of Bronnbach Monastery (today Wertheim ), from 1917 mainly on the (no longer existing) New Castle in Seebenstein near Vienna, where Michael von Braganza died in 1927. He was transferred to Bronnbach and buried in front of the choir area of the monastery church of the Assumption of Mary. His wife Maria Theresia died in 1935 at Vienna-Aspern Airport and rests in the Carmelite Church of the Holy Family of Vienna- Döbling .

Maria Theresia von Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg, had eight children with Duke Michael von Braganza. They were:

- Prince Duarte Nuno of Braganza (1907–1976), head of the old house of Portugal

On July 31, 1920, Michael von Braganza determined his son Duarte II. Nuno (1907-1976) as his successor as head of the family. His son, Duarte Pius von Braganza (* 1945), is today's (2012) pretender to the throne and head of the House of Braganza. He is the grandson of Princess Maria Theresia zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg.
